Michael Angelo Batio – MAB is an American heavy metal guitarist and columnist. Batio was voted the "No. 1 Shredder of All Time" by Guitar One Magazine in 2003. He was also listed as one of the "Top 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists of All Time" by Guitar World Magazine, for which he writes the column Time to Burn, and one of the "20 Greatest Shredders of All Time" by Total Guitar Magazine, both in April 2008.

Batio began his recording career in 1984 when he joined new Chicago-based heavy metal band Holland, an eponymous project set up by ex-Steppenwolf singer Tommy Holland. With major label Atlantic Records, the band released their debut studio album in 1985 entitled Little Monsters, which saw moderate success in the United States. The band split up soon after, and a compilation of material from the Little Monsters sessions, Wake Up the Neighbourhood, was released in 1999 through Batio’s label M.A.C.E. Music.

After the breakup of Holland, Batio started his own eponymous band with singer Michael Cordet, bassist Allen Hearn and drummer Paul Cammarata. The Band did not release any albums, though three of their songs appeared on the 1998 Nitro compilation Gunnin’ for Glory.

In 1987 Batio joined glam metal artist Jim Gillette on his solo album Proud to Be Loud, before founding the band Nitro with bassist T.J. Racer and drummer Bobby Rock. In 1989 Nitro released their first studio album, O.F.R., from which they released two singles, "Freight Train" and "Long Way From Home". The music video for "Freight Train", which received much airplay on MTV, was notable for featuring Batio playing his now famous ‘Quad Guitar’, a notion which FHM Magazine voted one of the "50 most outrageous moments in rock history".

1987 was also the year Batio released his first instructional video with "Star Licks" as part of the "Masters Series" and was one of the first recognized rock guitarists to make the jump into video instructional material. This video was the very first "shred" instructional program showing many modern guitar concepts for the first time.

In April 1993, Batio founded his own record label, M.A.C.E. Music, which became one of the first labels online in 1996. He used this label when he began recording his first album, No Boundaries, which he released in 1995. Batio’s second studio release was Planet Gemini in 1997, which showed a very progressive, experimental side to his playing. In 1999, Batio released his second instructional video, Jam With Angelo, which came with his third studio album as a companion CD: Tradition. This was quickly followed by a fourth full-length album in 2000, Lucid Intervals and Moments of Clarity, which was credited to "Mike Batio and Rob Ross", the latter being the drummer.

In 2001, Batio released a CD with his band "C4," covering songs from his Holland years and including the original "Call to Arms." It was his 1st all vocal CD since recording with Nitro.

In 2003, Batio released his first DVD, the title release in his Speed Kills series, followed by the second, Speed Lives, in 2004. It was also in this year that Batio released a compilation album, Lucid Intervals and Moments of Clarity Part 2, which featured songs from Tradition and Lucid Intervals.

In 2005, Michael released his highly anticipated cover/tribute/studio album, Hands Without Shadows, which featured guest appearances from such musicians as Mark Tremonti (of Alter Bridge fame), Rudy Sarzo (of Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake and Dio fame) and virtuoso newcomer Bill Peck. In 2006, DVD Speed Kills 2 was released, in addition to the first in the new Hands Without Shadows series, Performance. Batio’s latest release came in 2007, when his first two albums – No Boundaries and Planet Gemini – were remixed and remastered with additional drums, for an album entitled 2 X Again; the title of a song from the first album. Angelo also released three DVDs in 2007: Speed Kills 3, 25 Jazz Progressions and MAB Jam Session.

Michael Angelo Batio has an advanced knowledge of music theory, with a deep understanding of complex scale combinations and time signatures which assist him in his compositions. Batio has cited F-sharp minor and F-sharp phrygian dominant as his favorite. He has described F sharp minor as a "demonic" key, giving a dark, evil sound.

Only 60 Harrison TRIBUTE guitars will be produced worldwide.Very special extras include: Original 1987 U.K. 7" picture-sleeve vinyl record of George Harrison hit "Got My Mind Set On You."One of George Harrison's actual personal guitar picks. Two previously unpublished photos of George Harrison with his original Duo Jet guitar.A DVD about the making of the Gretsch G6128T-GH George Harrison Tribute Duo Jet guitar.A copy of 1980 George Harrison autobiography I Me Mine.A personal letter from the Harrison family.A reprint of George Harrison's 1961 IOU to Liverpool cab driver Ivan Hayward as handwritten on the back of the customs slip Hayward filled out to bring the original Duo Jet to England from New York.Set of four Gretsch George Harrison pins.Unique Features: Lightweight mid-'50s chamber body, distressed all-black color scheme (body top, back and sides and back of neck), modified B6C Bigsby tailpiece with black Phillips head tremolo arm pivot bolt, offset mounted strap carriage bolt on butt of bodyThe backgroundThere's a very famous early film of the Beatles performing at Liverpool's Cavern Club the dank, cramped cellar where the group played from February 1961 to August 1963. The grainy black and white footage captures the Beatles (mere days after new drummer Ringo Starr officially joined) sweating through a raucous cover of "Some Other Guy," then a staple of their act, before a packed house. At far stage right, 19-year-old guitarist George Harrison is blasting out the song's infectious chord progression on what he later called his "first real decent guitar"a black 1957 Gretsch 6128 Duo Jet, serial number 21179, with a Bigsby vibrato unit. The guitar is clearly visible in the footage. The Gretsch Duo Jet that Harrison plays in the clip was dear to him at the time. He often referred to it as his first truly good guitar. He'd bought it secondhand from a Liverpool cab driver a year earlier at age 18, in summer 1961. After acquiring the guitar, Harrison played it during the historic three-year period when the Beatles made their momentous transformation from local favorites to U.K. sensations to worldwide phenomenon. He used it to record the Beatles' first album, Please Please Me, and the song of the same name that was their first number-one hit. A quarter-century later he returned to the guitar for his acclaimed 1987 solo album Cloud Nine.So when Gretsch wanted to honor Harrison in 2011 with a signature guitar modelit had to be that guitar.BodyBody Material: Mahogany back, 3-ply Maple topBody Shape: JetBody Top: 3-Ply MapleBody Finish: ArrayNeckNumber of Frets: 22Fingerboard Radius: 9" (22.9 cm)Fretboard: RosewoodNeck Material: 1-Piece MahoganyNeck Finish: LacquerNut Width: 1.66" (42 mm)Scale Length: 24.6" (62.5 cm)ElectronicsBridge Pickup: DynaSonic Single-Coil Bridge Pickup Custom M

Fender Custom Shop Stevie Ray Vaughan Lenny Tribute Stratocaster Electric Guitar
Offer by: Musician's Friend
Price: USD 17,000.00
This emotive addition to the Custom Shop Tribute Series is an intricate reproduction of Lenny down to the smallest of details from the customized neck that was a gift from ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, the reflective SRV stickers on the body, the battered headstock to the autograph that Stevie himself etched into the neck plateeven an autograph from legendary baseball great, Mickey Mantle. The original Lenny guitar is a universally recognizable Fender Stratocaster, best known for its uniquely bright and powerful tone and known as one of Stevie Ray Vaughan's favorite instruments throughout his entire career. The guitar itself has an almost mystical heritage that can be traced back to the very beginning of Vaughan's rise to stardom.Lenny's body is similarly storied its most notable feature is a batwing-shaped inlay believed to be from a 1910 mandolin pickguard and reproduced in exact detail for the replica. The original sunburst finish was removed by heavy sanding, givingLenny a much more rounded, smoother and softer contoured body than any Strat before or since. Subsequently refinished, the original sunburst finish still peeks through the clear mahogany lacquer. It's easy to imagine Vaughan pulling into a truck stop and adding the SRV stickers to the shrunken, warped and cracked pickguard. The Custom Shop has recreated that ensemble with remarkable authenticity. The pickguard hides yet moretreasuresa humbucking pickup cavity, unusually routed in the middle position, and a haphazardly wired control pot assembly with tone pots mounted in reverse. Re-creating the non-original bridge and strap-lock hardware is further evidence of the fastidious attention to detail. Ultimately, however, it's all about Vaughan's music, and he summed Lenny up best when he said, "It's always meant a lot to me. And I love what it sounds like." Stevie Ray Vaughan was just a struggling young guitarist in Austin, Texas, in 1980, when his wife, Lenora 'Lenny' Vaughan, gave him a used Stratocaster that had recently caught his eye in a local pawnshop. It was a 1965 Fender Stratocaster guitar with the original pickups that, from the look of it, had seen better days. Although it began life as a three-color sunburst model, it had obviously been refinished (none too expertly) at some point, and now it had a dark natural finish bearing an elaborate inlay in the body behind the bridge. Nonetheless, there was something about it that clearly and immediately resonated deeply with Vaughan. As Vaughan himself said during an interview published in the Feb. 1990 issue of Guitar Player magazine:It's called Lenny. I found it at a pawnshop and didn't have the money to buy it, and my wife and several other friends of mine put a pool together and bought the guitar. It's always meant a lot to me. And I love what it sounds like. "Riviera Paradise" and "Lenny" (Texas Flood) are both played on the same guitar, and for some reason that guitar works for songs like that more than anything else. Arguably the pinnacle of Taylor's 35th anniversary commemorative collection, the Brazilian rosewood guitar series has received considerable attention from Bob Taylor. Bob hand-picked the sets from Taylor's ultra-limited Brazilian reserves and designed each guitar personally, based on the unique characteristics of each beautiful set of wood. Bob selected the top wood, bracing style, and binding of each guitar individually to complement the Brazilian rosewood used for each one. The commemorative dreadnought guitar boasts a deep and medium-sized body, creating a sound chamber that rings out in balanced harmony. Whether strumming on the rhythm, or getting wild on a barn-burning solo, the Taylor Brazilian rosewood dreadnought holds its own with clear, full-sounding projection that cuts through any mix. The guitar's body offers comfort when accessing upper-register notes on the sturdy ebony fingerboard. The solid Adirondack spruce top and Solid Brazilian rosewood body produce crystal-clear tone, full range and volumeall with breathtaking looks. The Taylor NT neck joint creates a tight and sturdy bond, fastening the body to the tropical mahogany neck to produce an incredibly solid structure. The Taylor standard neck carve, 1-3/4" nut width, and 15" fretboard radius provide comfort when performing intricate movements across the guitar's 20 frets. At the heart of the 35th anniversary Taylor Brazilian rosewood guitar lies an impressive and intuitive electronics system that lets you dial in your ideal amplified sound. The Taylor Expression System (ES) delivers a tone that will satisfy the most demanding pro player, yet is simple enough for anyone to plug in and sound great. Gibson Custom Marc Bolan Aged Les Paul Electric Guitar Bolan Chablis
Offer by: Musician's Friend
Price: USD 7,999.00
Marc Bolan is famous for his work as the founder, writer, and guitarist of T. Rex, and the inspiration for the Glam Rock movement of the 70's. Gibson Custom has worked with his son, widow, and archive photos of the guitar to recreate Marc's mainstay instrument, a '50s Les Paul Model. Originally an unknown finish, Marc removed the original paint and had it stained resulting in the "Bolan Chablis" finish of this limited edition guitar. The replacement Les Paul Custom neck is also recreated, reflecting the breaking of its original neck as well as Gibson's policy at the time of only providing replacement necks with a black finish. This is a limited edition of 100 Marc Bolan Aged Les Paul guitars with the Finish and hardware are gently aged to make it look exactly like the real Marc's distinctive Les Paul. Each instrument comes with a hard shell Custom case, vintage replica woven strap and a certificate of authenticity inset with a photo of Marc Bolan with reproduction signature.Although the Les Paul Custom neck with which it was most often seen has lead to some confusion over the origins of Marc Bolan's guitar, the instrument was actually a late-'50s Les Paul that was stripped and refinished by Bolan himself in a faded translucent orange dubbed "Bolan Chablis", then "re-necked" after an accident in the early '70s. As such, the body of the Gibson Custom Marc Bolan Les Paul is produced with period-correct woods and techniques, and includes a solid (non-chambered) one-piece mahogany body and carved plain maple top, as revealed through Gibson Custom's recreation of Bolan's own "DIY" refinishing work, while its sides and back retain the original back finish. Its mahogany neck is set with a long-tenon neck joint like all the great original Les Pauls, for added resonance and sustain, although its look and the rest of its construction mark a major departure for the instrument. Like the early-'70s Les Paul Custom neck that Bolan had added to his guitar in the course of its repair, this neck carries the ebony fingerboard that distinguishes that "upgraded" model, along with the large mother-of-pearl block inlays, period-correct 14 headstock pitch, and mother-of-pearl split-diamond headstock inlay in a holly headstock veneer. To translate all of this thick, juicy vintage Les Paul tone to your amp of choice, the guitar carries a pair of Custom Buckers, an accurate PAF-reproduction humbucker designed specifically for the Marc Bolan Les Paul. Along with its mismatched nickel-plated ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and gold-plated aluminum stopbar tailpiece, the Custom-spec gold-plated Grover tuners and a PLEK-cut Corian nut further enhance the resonance and singing sustain of this unique instrument. With only 450 produced in total100 hand aged (this model), a further 350 given the VOS (Vintage Original Spec) processthey are bound to go fast, so get your hands on your own Marc Bolan Les Paul today.
